Homemade Balsamic Vinaigrette Dressing

balsamic-vinaigrette

Homemade dressings are such a great and easy way to cut out a lot of chemicals and preservatives from your diet.   Once you find a few great recipes that you love, you’ll never buy another store-bought dressing again.  Think about all the room you are going to have in your refrigerator door!!  Some staples to have on hand to make a variety of different dressings include various vinegars, olive oil, Dijon mustard, garlic powder and various dried spices.   This is my go-to recipe for Balsamic Vinaigrette, which is a tad bit creamy, thanks to the Dijon mustard, and sweet thanks to the honey.

In a small dish add equal parts Dijon mustard and honey.  For one serving size try a tablespoon of each. For a larger batch you can use more.  Add enough balsamic vinegar to just cover your honey/mustard, then top with olive oil.  Add a dash of garlic powder (if I have more time I add fresh minced garlic instead), salt and pepper and mix well to combine all ingredients.  The trick is to not stop mixing until the olive oil has fully incorporated into the rest of the mixture and it looks like one smooth consistency, with no separation.

Ingredient Recap: Dijon Mustard, Honey, Balsamic Vinegar, Olive Oil, Garlic Powder, Salt and Pepper

I tend to mix this up one serving at a time because it’s so quick and easy, but you could make a larger batch and keep in fridge for a few days.

Yum Yum!!

  1. Sounds yummy. Fresh is best. I live in France and we always make fresh vinegarette right in the bottom of the salad bowl. The Italiens often pour the three main ingredients over the salad at the table. Dipping sauces have just started to catch on with millenials for coctail time. Thanks for sharing Sarah!
